The first quarter of year 2003
witnessed the launching of new models of cars of different makes in
the Sultanate. Joining the line up of car launches yesterday evening
was the New Subaru Impreza WRX held at the showroom of Lau Motors,
Subaru dealer in the country. The new 2003 IMPREZA WRX STi was the
main attraction at last night's event. The Horizontally-Opposed 2.0
litre turbocharged engine has been a Subaru hallmark that has been
refined with each new model.
Perfected and honed by Subaru
Technica International (STi), who develop the powerplants in the WRC
cars, the results are stunning, with 195kW (265ps), 0-100 km/h in 5.5
seconds and a top speed of 244km/h.
As befits a car with the legendary
grip and traction of Subaru's full-time All-Wheel Drive System, the
WRX STi's suspension has been upgraded to improve stability and
control geometry changes in hard cornering, whether on the road or on
a special stage. Yet, despite this impressive figure, the latest STi
is actually more economical on fuel than its predecessor.
The Huge Brembo discs with
4-sensor/4-channel anti-lock braking and Electronic Brake Force
Distribution makes sure that braking forces are distributed evenly as
you steer away from potential sources of danger, this is among the
safety features of the WRX STi, taking their inherent protection
policy much further.
On the road price of $46,000 for the
IMPREZA WRX and $62,000 for WRX STi, both cars can be viewed at Lau
Motors Showroom in Gadong during their business hours.
