Child Development Set For Special
Children

Begawan - The Child Development Centre started the early
intervention programme for children with special needs in
collaboration with Pusat Ehsan in Bengkurong held at Sunga1 Tali
Primary School in Lumut yesterday.
The Director-General of Medical
Services said the centre is responsible in the preparations of a
structured programme for the programme whilst Pusat Ehsan provides the
venue and teachers to implement that programme.
Dr. Haji Affendy made this remark
during a presentation of special toys and equipment to the children
with special needs in the country this afternoon.
Dr. Haji Affendi added the main
objective of the programme is to prepare the children to familiarize
with normal school environment.
To date the child development centre
is operational only as an assessment and reference centre, this year
another concept has been proposed by i he centre with the support of
Baiduri Bank. It is an effort to extend the role of charity by
including Pusat Ehsan and smarter under its wings.
The general manager of Baiduri Bank,
Mr. Pierre Imhof in his speech said the implementation of the early
intervention programme at Pusat Ehsan is a step that is supported by
the Baiduri Bank chart in golf.
The Baiduri Bank charity golf also
praises i he effort of smarter, an organization supported entirely by
parents helping autistic children, which has made a tremendous
contribution toward the study and unders-1'anding of this disorder and
has set up a resource centre at jigsaw Berakas school.
Over 100 special needs children from
Smarter, the Child Development Centre and Pusat Ehsan received
educational toys and equipment from the Director General of medical
services. The donations also included. Learning materials such as
books, and Communication-Aids. The ceremony took at the Pusat Ehsan
Kampong Bengkurong.
Meanwhile, in an effort to upgrade
health in the community, a mini-game workshop was organised in the
Belait district. The workshop is aimed at creating awareness to all
especially school pupils on the importance of keeping good health, and
making them active and productive members in the community.
This 3-day workshop is being attended
by more than 60 teachers from government primary schools in the Belait
Distsrict. The mini games are included in the physical education
subject syllabus, an additional to several.
Previous activity programmes. During
the workshop, several programmes have been set up which include
briefings and discussions and demonstrations by officers-in-charge.
Such programmes are very important to
the pupils as they provide benefits in the aspects of psychology,
attitude and discipline of students. --
