Local, Japanese Paintings
Displayed at Art Exhibition
Bandar Seri
Begawan - More than a hundred local and Japanese paintings are
being featured at the Brunei-Japan Friendship Art Exhibition held at
Empire Hotel and Country Club yesterday.
The public can now view the more than
fifty paintings by local artists and about fifty paintings by
prominent Japanese artists.
In the spirit of bilateral
cooperation between Brunei and Japan, the two artists from Japan
symbolise partnership at work between artists from Japan and Brunei.
Japanese style painting artist, Mr
Toshi Muroi, who exhibited 13 paintings, said the art exhibition will
help strengthen further the ties between Brunei and Japan.
The Brunei-Japan Friendship Art
Exhibition also aims to showcase the talents of local artists as well
as the artwork of two well-known Japanese artists who are members of
Japan Fine Arts Exhibition.
Local artist, Haji Jalil Haji, of
Gadong said this art exhibition could become a yardstick for Bruneian
artists to upgrade their paintings in the future by learning through
artworks of foreign artists.
Meanwhile, another local artist said
through painting, an artist could show his country's culture and
heritage to visitors.
According to him, his paintings are
based on the community surrounding and his fellow citizens in
traditional costumes. -- Courtesy
