Brunei Still Free From SARS

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei is free from the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

However, authorities in the country have taken measures to raise consciousness about SARS among school children by launching a clean-up campaign for educational institutions in the sultanate.

Tough measures are continuously taken around the world to prevent SARS infection.

Thailand today began issuing booklets to travellers arriving from SARS-hit countries to record their health status for a period of 10 days, the incubation time of the virus.

The public health ministry said foreigners will have to get a doctor to certify every three days that they are free of SARS, and record that in the green booklets.

The booklets will be distributed at airports and other points of entry.

Thailand has had seven imported SARS patients, two of whom have died.

There have been no reported cases of local transmission in Thailand.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) experts will go to a crowded Chinese province where SARS originates.

Spreading fast in Manila, panic over SARS may cause more damage than the actual disease, official warned today.

As they called for calm following reports of fresh cases, the health department this week, reported seven fresh cases of SARS, bringing the total to 10 in the Philippines.

Singapore is halfway to declaring its SARS outbreak is under control. None of the current patients are believed to have contracted the disease after April 27.

The health ministry said Singapore has registered 27 deaths from SARS out of 204 cases. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
