Bandar Seri
Begawan - A 41-year-old Malaysian 'punter' was fined $1,000 in
the Magistrates' Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to buying
lottery tickets.
Magistrate Lailatul Zubiadah ordered
Sim Tze Hin to serve 2 months imprisonment if failed to pay the fine
which was imposed on him after he was found guilty of having in his
possession a mobile phone and a diary book, which were confirmed by a
gaming expert to be related to punting.
According to the police-prosecuting
officer, Sim was caught in a raid conducted by personnel from the
Gadong Police HQ's Criminal Investigation Department. He was
apprehended at a food stall in Kg Madewa.
The police personnel acted on a
public tip-off and found Sim inside the premises.
The encounter then resulted in a
search on his car where the said items were discovered.
Sim admitted to committing the
offence during investigations.
The diary book contained 4D results
and was seized along with the mobile phone showing 4D results through
SMS.
The police prosecuting officer
informed that evidence which has been submitted through gaming expert
reports is adequate to charge a person under the Common Gaming House
where the defendant is left to make his choice to enter a plea of
guilty or otherwise. -- Courtesy
