Bridge Number Three Coming Up In
Gadong
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A third bridge budgeted at $1.1 million will be
constructed across Sungai Menglait to ease traffic flow in busy Gadong
business district.
Bridge Number Three is to be
completed by September.
It will connect the Abdul Razak
Complex to Jalan Pasar Gadong and Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah
College of Nursing.
The Gadong business district centre
rose from what was a relatively unknown area in the past to one that
is considered as a major commercial hub of the capital.
This vibrant commercial centre
comprises of at least no less than four department stores, a vast
number of restaurants and eateries, a hotel and a number of business
offices.
The prominence of the area, however,
was not without a price to pay. Traffic congestion, which was already
heavy, increased as more shopping complexes were erected.
In addition the commercial centre of
Gadong is only a stone's throw away from the wet market, the Sixth
Form Centre - the Maktab Dull Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, the
ASEAN-EC Management Centre and the Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah
College of Nursing.
To ease the continuous traffic flow,
a bridge was built by Abdul Razak holdings.
This bridge, opened in 1994, links
the Gadong wet market to the commercial hub.
This bridge, which continues to be
used till today, however, is no longer sufficient to handle the
traffic congestion that one experiences on any given day.
In view of this, the Abdul Razak
holdings erected a second bridge. This yet-to-be opened bridge is, for
the time being, used by contractors for "the mall" to avoid
further congestion.
However, the public will have access
to this as well as bridge number three when 'The Mall' is open for
business sometime later this year with five access into the bustling
commercial area of Gadong, it is expected that traffic flow will
improve significantly.
The Chairman and Managing Director of
the Abdul Razak Holdings, Dato Haji Abdul Haphiz officiated the event
with an earth breaking ceremony for the construction of Bridge Number
Three.
