Big School Clean Up Against Sars

Begawan - Specialists in the medical field have discovered that
the use of ordinary or medicated soap could kill the SARS virus within
five minutes.
The special duties officer at the
Ministry of Education, Dr. Haji Abdul Latif, pointed this out when he
launched a nationwide clean up campaign against the Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome (Sars) epidemic sweeping the region. It was aimed
at schools, colleges and institutes of higher learning.
The campaign is a joint effort by the
Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education. This morning's
function took place at the Berakas Secondary School.
The Minister of Education, Pehin Dato
Haji Abdul Aziz, and the Minister of Health, Pehin Dato Haji Abu Bakar
as well as senior officers of both ministries were involved in the
project.
Dr Haji Abdul Latif, who is also
co-chairman of the campaign, in his welcoming address, said that the
ministry of education has taken measures to protect school children
and the community from contracting Sars.
The Minister of Education then
launched the cleaning campaign against Sars for schools, colleges and
institutes of higher learning.
The Minister of Health, in his
capacity as co-chairman of the project, presented guide manuals on
hygiene and sale of food and drinks to proprietors of school canteens.
With Pehin Dato Haji Awang Abdul Aziz,
and Pehin Dato Haji Abu Bakar at the helm, the cleaning campaign was
carried out in earnest.
Both ministers also took the
opportunity to take a closer look into the condition on the compound
of the Berakas secondary school, also scrutinised were the class
rooms, canteen than the school's premises.
Students together with their
classmates and teachers worked in earnest in making the cleaning
campaign a success.
The objective of the campaign was to
produce awareness among students about the importance of maintaining
personal hygiene and cleanliness of the environment in combating Sars
and other contagious communal diseases.
Also involved in similar undertakings
were the Pengiran Anak Puteri Muta-Wakkilah, Hayatul Bolkiah Religious
School in Kampong Serusop, the Anggerek Desa Primary School and the
