Come And Watch Planet Mercury Passing By In Serasa Beach

Bandar Seri Begawan - An astronomical event will take place today where the Planet Mercury will pass between the earth and the sun to make a five-hour-long journey across the solar disk. The event will begin at 12pm.

The Temporary Secretary of the Brunei Astronomy Association, Awang Hazarry bin Haji and Ali Ahmad informed that for Brunei, the planet transit will begin at 13 minutes past one o'clock in the afternoon where the planet will appear as a silhouette grazing the sun's northern edge.

It is impossible to view the phenomenon without the aid of telescopes.

In addition, members of the public are warned not to look directly at the sun or through any telescopes or binoculars without proper equipment and protection since the intense brightness of the sun, harmful to the eyes, could result in blindness.

Astronomy enthusiasts in Brunei and interested public are welcome to the transit watching activity at Serasa beach starting at noon today. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
