By Rosli Abidin Yahya

The Brunei Malay Entrepreneurs Federation (PPPMB) on Monday night unveiled various plans and strategies to improve the economic situation of its members as well as making significant contribution to the national economy. The three-hour meeting, held at the Hariza Restaurant, Beribi was chaired by the permanent Chairman Hj Abdul Rahman Yusof and attended by the President Dr Hj Abdul Latif Chuchu, two deputy presidents, Pg Shahminan Pg Hj Ismail and Hj Ismail Damit, and other executive committee members.

The federation unveiled its five-year plan until the next general election where it will form a Lembaga Amanah or Trust Council, Lembaga Disiplin or Disciplinary Council and the setting up of a business centre and a restaurant to cater for members' varying needs at its office at No 16, 2nd Floor, Bangunan Desa Delima, Simpang 44, Kg Pancha Delima, Berakas.

The Trust Fund is an investment wing of the federation where a member is expected to contribute $50 per month towards capital for any agreed projects to be done by the federation.

Earlier on, PPPMB had visualised for the federation to own its own commercial building within five years.

The Disciplinary Council will hear all grievances from members on disciplinary breaches by other members.

"The council will also convene to decide the fate of members who have contravened disciplinary acts such as criminal breach of trust or fig thing amongst themselves," said Hj Abdul Rahman who will lead the five-member council.

The setting up of a business centre is to cater administration needs of members who do not have their own offices.

Such members can utilise the centre to fax their business letters, use the address of the office for their business needs, use the phones for business purposes, surf the internet or send email, and all other related products usually offered by such centre.

However, members who wish to utilise offered services will be charged fees to cover costs and expenditure running the centre.

Hj Ismail Damit, deputy president III also suggested for the office to be used as a business reference centre where they can get catalogues and details of overseas companies to cater for their local supply needs.

"The centre should also collect local business information including PPPMB members for reference purposes," he said.

The meeting also discussed silver jubilee celebration where at least three events had been earmarked to take place in September.

The events include Business Entrepreneurs Summit, Malay concert and trade exposition.

Hj Ilmi Hj Ghafar is the new secretary-general also accepted his appointment by acquiring all federation's documents from the former acting secretary-general Pg Shahminan. He will be aided by Haji Johari bin Pehin Hj Omar, the new deputy secretary-general.

The federation's next meeting will be held at 8pm on June 2 at its office in Bangunan Desa Delima, Berakas.
