The Philippine Embassy won the best
booth award at the 9th International Women's Club of Brunei (IWCB)
Charity Bazaar at the Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong last Sunday. It was
cited for its originality, touch of class, presentation, creativity
and teamwork in bringing in decorative materials and Philippine craft
and paintings.
On sale were various Philippine
handicraft like baskets, picture frames, jewellery boxes, throw pillow
cases, mother of pearl brooches, coconut twigs, t-shirts and
paintings.
Members of the Philippine Embassy and
the Filipino community who manned the booth wore distinctively-styled
outfits that further attracted the judges' attention.
The Langkawi Malaysia booth won 2nd
place. The booth of Pg Hjh Aishah placed third. The judges were Mrs.
Peck Lee and Pg. Hjh Siti Mariam PRW Pg Hj. Metussin.
The guest of honour, Mdme Pham Thi
Phuong, wife of the Vietnamese Ambassador and Dean of the Diplomatic
Corps, handed the award to Philippine Ambassador Virginia H. Benavidez.
The charity bazaar brought together
several women from Brunei, the Diplomatic Corps and other sectors for
a humanitarian and worthy endeavour, said Ambassador Benavidez.
