By Liza Mohd

Workers being ambushed at a house construction site in Jalan Maulana,
KB
About 64 foreign construction workers
were investigated following a raid yesterday morning conducted by nine
Kuala Belait Immigration Officials at three construction sites within
the area of KB town. A Thai man was issued with a special pass, after
failing to produce documents relating to his employer when immigration
raiding parties ambushed a housing construction site in Jalan Maulana.
Meanwhile, six men consisting of four
Indians and two Indonesians were immediately detained after failing to
provide identification cards or passports, while working at another
housing construction site in Jalan Gates.
Construction workers inspected at a
double storey shop construction site in Jalan Jaya Negara were able to
produce relevant documents to prove their legal stay in Brunei.
The purposes of the raid codenamed
"Operation Benteras 25" led by Chief Immigration Officer
Sulaiman bin Hj Hidup, was to conduct inspections on residences and
rented houses of the foreign workers and construction sites, to ensure
that they did not breach the Immigration Act and Rules following
previous arrest for offences such as overstaying, runaway workers and
other related offences.
