Buns Turn Hard
On Local

Bandar Seri Begawan - What could have
been just a dollar or two cost a local man $500 or a month in jail in
default in the Bandar Seri Begawan court yesterday. And his temper
landed him in jail for three months.
The 33-year-old
Bahrum Hj Kamis, spotted stealing two packets of buns from a bakery
last month. Allapitchai Jagubar Ali, 27, an employee on seeing this,
asked Bahrum to settle his old debts. But Bahrum in a fit of anger
punched Allapitchai. His act earned him a three-month jail sentence
and $500 fine or a month in jail in default.
The defendant,
pleaded guilty to both the charges before Senior Magistrate Radin
Safiee Radin Mas Basuini.
Bahrum was
sentenced to three months jail for voluntarily causing hurt to
Allapitchai and was also
fined for stealing the buns.
Furthermore, Bahrum
also faced two other charges of causing hurt and a theft charge of
stealing buns. However, he pleaded not guilty to those charges and was
discharged not amounting to acquittal.
According to the
statement of facts tendered before the court, the defendant went to
Syarikat Perusahaan Roti Hj Mazlan on March 11 to take away some fresh
buns.
Once he entered the
bakery shop, he proceeded to take two plastic packets of buns from the
shelf. When he was about to leave the shop, the complainant tried to
stop him and asked him about the defendant’s old debt.
Upon hearing this,
the Bahrum became angry and punched Allapitchai on his face. Bahrum
then left the shop shortly without paying for the buns.
A report was lodged
the next day at the Bangar Police Station and the defendant was
subsequently arrested four days later, Prosecuting Officer, Norhayati
