Local Man Gets
36 Months For Stealing Spree

Seri Begawan - Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri yesterday
sentenced a 22-year-old local man, to 36 months jail who suddenly
changed his plea to guilty to four theft charges.
The Police Prosecuting Officer said, Jeridin Minggas, was supposed to
stand trial on June 5 and 7 when he pleaded not guilty to all the
charges. However, he had a change of mind and pleaded guilty yesterday
and was sentenced to 12 months in jail for stealing a Toyota Corolla
Space Wagon.
According to the
Police Prosecutor, he committed the offence sometime between January
31 and February 1 this year near Bukit Bunga where he spotted the car
parked at the garage of house No. 518 in Kg Lumapas.
He unlocked the car by using his own set of
keys, started the car and drove it towards Bandar Seri Begawan
where he parked and abandoned the stolen vehicle near the Kg Kianggeh
stalls.

Hj Abdullah then sentenced him to 12 months jail each the sentences to run concurrently after he pleaded guilty to
two other theft charges. He stole a Sony radio cassette belonging to
an Indonesian man and 11 keys and $5 belonging to Abdul Razak building
parking booth.
The Police Prosecutor said the defendant on January 28 was loitering
around in the capital. He walked towards the underground parking lot
and saw a small parking booth and then decided to commit theft.
When he noticed
that no one was in the booth, he opened the door and ransacked the
place. He spotted a Sony radio cassette and took the item. He also
took the 11keys and the cash from the counter and left immediately.
Meanwhile, he
received a 12-month custodial sentence when he pleaded guilty to
stealing a generator set belonging
to Ak Hj Marzalan Pg Hj Morsidi on February 1s at a
farmhouse at lot No. 202 in Simpang 472, Jalan Bertumpu in Kg Masin.
The Police Prosecutor said all the stolen items were recovered after
his arrest.
