Caution on expired goods
Consumers are advised to always be
aware of expiry dates on canned or packed food before buying or
consuming them. Failure to do so might prove hazardous to their
health, according to a report from RTB. The Kuala Belait Health
Department's Food Safety Unit has advised the public not to purchase
or consume food in cans that are rusty, flatulent, dented, leaked or
with dates of consumption that have expired.
They were urged to be extra careful
when purchasing the goods and once opened, the contents should be
quickly consumed or heated to ensure they are free from any kind of
contamination.
Health Supervisor Dyg Hjh Norlaila
said that for the sake of consumers' own health, they must ensure that
the canned food they bought are safe to have. If there are any
complaints pertaining to this matter, they could contact the unit at
the health office.
The unit also provides instructions
on extending the shelf-life of canned food. Food should be stored in a
clean and dry container at a room temperature of between 21 and 24
degrees Celcius. Any leftovers should be put in a container.
