Schoolboy hones his sandwich-making skills

A balanced diet is essential for healthy living. Ever since our early school days, we have been advised to consume healthy food in order to enhance the growth of mind and body.

A group of dieticians from the Ministry of Health, headed by Hjh Masni Hj Ibrahim, the Head of Committee Nutrition, Ministry of Health yesterday held a talk on the aspects of balanced foods to 80 students from the Orange, Yellow, Green and Pink nursery classes at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah School at Jalan Kebangsaan.

Hjh Masni explained that the educational programme, "Food Groupie Early Nutrition" is an awareness programme for children to learn of the advantages to their body and brains by taking the balanced foods.

She added that the programme teaches students accordingly in their level class standard. As it was a nursery class programme, the group gave the children a sandwich-making demonstration.

Hjh Masni later said that sandwiches generally offer a good form of nutrition. The children were also given an exercise session whereby they made their own sandwiches. All the students clearly enjoyed the programme, which also featured a puppet show performance by the dieticians.

The objective of the programme was to educate the children on the importance of consuming balanced food, aside from introducing them to a wide variety of healthy foods. It was also aimed at training them at an early stage to taking precautions in their daily food intake.

The talk was part of the several activities organised by the school, and more are to be lined-up in the future. The primary grade students are also scheduled to have a similar dietician programme this June.
