Twenty-five participants from
both the private and the public sectors took part in a two-day
Enhancing Management Effectiveness workshop which began at the Asean-EC
Management Centre yesterday morning.
The workshop was officially launched
by the Director of the Asean-EC Management Centre Awang Abdul Ghani
bin Pg Haji Metusin.
In his speech, he said that in a
competitive environment, continuous national and global changes will
have a profound effect on the managers who must know not only the
business dimensions, strategies, products and services, but also the
capability of anticipating and interpreting customers' requirement.
He said that a good manager
recognises what are the right things to do and that not every
situation is the same. They must also know that people are the most
important asset in every organisation. Therefore managers have to
develop people in order to improve an organisation's work.
He stressed that the most effective
managers are quick to act than they are to react, their best solution
to any problem is to solve it before it becomes a problem in times of
rapid changes. For individual managers, there is a constant pressure
to upgrade skills and knowledge and to retain their status in the
organisational systems and the labour market.
He hoped that the workshop would give
the participants a better understanding on the job scope and roles of
manager and they would practise the skills learned in their
organisation.
The guest speaker for the workshop
was Mr Abd Hamid bin Haji Abdullah, the Managing Director and
Principal Managing Consultant of EMC Management Centre Sdn Bhd, EMC
Management Consultancy Sdn, Bhd and Talent and Human Capital Solution
Sdn Bhd.
