RBAF personnel awaiting judgement

The case of the two Royal Brunei
Armed Forces personnel who allegedly committed three gang robberies on
three different occasions this year was heard again in the
Magistrate's Court yesterday. SLD 14603 Hj Abd Azis Hj Kadir was
represented by Mr Daud Ismail from Daud Ismail and Company Advocates
and Solicitors while L/cpl 13552 Mohd Ariffin Mohammad were
unrepresented yesterday.
A request made by Mr Daud for his
client to be released on court bail was declined by the Magistrate's
who said it was beyond the Magistrate's Court jurisdiction to set the
bail as it was the matter of the High Court.
Hjh Anifa Rafiza Hj Abd Ghani, the
Deputy Public Prosecutor however said pending to the Magistrate's
Court decision, the two will be further remanded at Jerudong Prison
for two weeks while waiting the unfixed date of hearing in the High
Court to set the bail and conditions.
The two-army men were caught on April
19.
Both were charged with committing
gang robbery using a knife on April 10 this year at about 11:20 am at
Syarikat Mohd Nirwan, No: 60 in Kampong Pengkalan Batu.
Their second charge was for
committing gang robbery using a knife on the same day at about 11:55
am at SPAJS Minimart in Kg Kulapis, an offence punishable under
section 398 of the Penal Code read with section 34 of the same.
And the last charge was for
committing a similar style robbery on April 18 at about 4:10 pm at
Seri Trading Mini Mart Spg 220 in Kg Kapok, Jalan Muara.
Under section 398 of the Penal Code,
Cap 22 the duo face imprisonment of not less than 7 years and with
whipping of not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
