Dusuns In Brunei
Celebrate Harvest Festival
Tutong -
The culture, customs and traditional activities of local communities
were among the attractions that ususlly entice tourists into the
country.
The Tutong District Officer, Awang
Hepnie stated this at the launching of the Adau Gayoh celebration held
at Kampong Bukit Udal yesterday.
In his speech, he also-suggested that
the concept of open house being practised during the celebration
should be extended to include members of other communities. It should
not be limited only to the Dusuns as long as the celebration did not
run contrary to the Islamic teachings.
This year's Adau Gayoh carries the
theme 'Pakatan Kukuh Masyarakat Maju'.
The Adau Gayoh is a celebration to
mark the end of a successful rice harvesting season.
An exhibition on the community's
handicrafts was put up to highlight the annual celebration.
Graham Peat a tourist from New
Zealand was much impressed. He had never witnessed such a traditional
celebration before and said such performances could attract more
tourists to Brunei. -- Courtesy
