Half-hearted driving instructor irks students
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Driving schools must be dedicated in their task of providing lessons to learner-drivers. Several learner-drivers complained about the attitude of an instructor at a driving school in the capital who taught them driving without dedication, motivation and concentration.

After all they said they were paying for such lessons and had been expecting good returns for their investment.

"The instructor lacked patience, determination and honesty in conducting his lessons.

"We felt that we did not get our money's worth as the instructor was obviously not dedicated enough and not interested in teaching us how to drive," they said.

They said they paid $100 for four hours to learn the road safety regulations but the instructor came fifteen minutes late and still stopped the classes on time.

The classes were supposed to be conducted on four different days, where they would attend for an hour a day.

However, because the instructor came fifteen minutes late each time, they lost a total of one hour or $25.

"We were also given photocopied materials instead of printed publication on the regulations. The photocopied handouts only showed the road signs in black and white when we were supposed to learn the real ones in colour.

"Furthermore the handouts were not clear," they said adding that there were occurrences of missing pages too. They said they found out about the missing pages when they could not answer some of the questions during a mock test.

"Only then the instructor realised that he had missed out some of the pages," they said adding that they also were taught about unnecessary things such as not to purchase luxury cars because they were expensive and cost more to maintain.

Similarly during the driving lessons, it was hard for them to find time to accommodate the instructor.

They said they paid $280 for the lessons but the instructor did the same trick by coming fifteen minutes late and stopping on time.

"He also advised us to learn from our relatives and friends when he knew these people were not authorised to provide driving lessons to us.

"He also told us not to worry about other cars as long as we were driving accordingly citing if accidents happened, then we would not be blamed.

"The instructor had failed to teach us defensive driving which should be practiced by all us as mistakes by any driver could prove fatal," they said.
