A blessing ceremony to commemorate the newly appointed commissioners and assistant commissioners for the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association was held at The Empire Hotel & Country Club on Saturday evening. The guest of honour for the ceremony was Pehin Orang Kaya DiGadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Paduka (Dr) Hj Awg Hussain, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in his capacity as the Chief Scouts.

Also present at the function were Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Raja Dato Seri Paduka Hj Awg Ali bin Hj Md Daud, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs cum the President of the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association and Dato Seri Laila Jasa Hj Ahmad bin Dato Paduka Matnor, the vice president of the association

The function started with an opening speech by the Chief National Commissioner of the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association, Hj Zainal Abidin bin Penghulu Hj Ibrahim.

In his speech, he stated that the newly appointed commissioners and their assistants should now bear the "responsibility sharing in order to accelerate towards the objectives of the association".

He also mentioned that the "Strategic Planning Workshop" would be held for the Scouts Association in order to help the association in achieving their vision and mission within the next 10 to 15 years. Hj Zainal Abidin added, "With this workshop, we will be using the 'Fire Fighting System' whereby we only clear one problem at a time, where necessary, as opposed to the current system today."

Meanwhile, Pehin Dato Hj Awg Hussain, the Chief Scout also delivered a speech in which he stressed that the appointed commissioners should be more committed and responsible towards implementing a job or project that has been given whether it is at the state or district level.

He also pointed out that, the Brunei Darussalam Scout Association will be the host for the 21st Asia Pacific Convention, which will be held on December 11, 2004.

The ceremony was followed by a presentation of the Amateur Radio License to Pehin Dato Hj Awg Hussain with a call sign V8ADH. This was presented by Awg Hj Badar bin Hj Ali, the Deputy Chief Commissioner of Scouts in his capacity as the Chairman of the Brunei Darussalam Scout's Amateur Radio Club.

Meanwhile, Awg Hj Bakar bin Hj Ahmad, the Commissioner of Headquarters (Amateur Radio) presented the Amateur Radio License to Pehin Dato Hj Awg Ali Hj Awg Mohd Daud with a call sign V8ADA.

Three new acting commissioners were also given their warrants. They were Awg Hj Md Saifuddin Dato Seri Setia Hj Mahalle, the Acting Assistant Commissioner of Public Relation and Publicity, Awg Hj Suhaili Hj Kawang, the Acting Assistant Commissioner of Headquarters (Amateur Radio) and Awg Hj Idris Hj Abd Rahim, the Acting Assistant Commissioner of Headquarters (Amateur Radio Electronic Technician).

The presentation of warrants was followed by the Scouts' Oath led by Awg Hj Ismail bin Dato Paduka Hj Abd Hapidz.
