Direct Shipping In Brunei Falls In
Past Five Years
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The future development of transportation in Brunei
will ensure a prosperous national economy and a fundamentally strong
nation.
The Managing Proprietor, Muara Gas
Company, Jeffery Pang said this when attending the recent 2nd Asean
Ports and Shipping 2003 held in Brunei.
Brunei is playing a pro-active role
to ensure that by integrating the total logistic chain that the
sultanate will not only enhance the movement of goods in the region
but also act as a business provider.
But he noted that in the past five
years, direct transportation in Brunei showed a decrease.
Currently, Muara Port is connected to
14 other ports by main shipping lines and feeder services.
Brunei provides the administrative
guidance and infrastructure support whilst the private sector directs
its energies towards the development of business relationships and
partnerships with customers.
This is a good example of how the
public and private sectors can work successfully hand in hand.
He said the system of transportation
in Brunei must be in line with the current service. This is not the
first time Brunei played host but it was the fourth occasion.
Ports Department also welcomes direct
and feeder shipping services from any port as well as new services.
In the last ten years, container
volume has experienced a double-digit growth.
In 2002, global container trades
recorded a massive 200 million plus TEU's of which notably, more than
half was handled in Asia alone.
During the last five years, shipping
lines have undertaken substantial expansion, and consolidation
efficiency plans.

largest vessel afloat today in operation with a capacity of almost
