birthday goods
By Malai FadleyRizal
A 34-year-old foreigner who had
bought in goods to celebrate a friend's upcoming birthday was fined
$1,500 by Magistrate Muhammed Faisal yesterday after he pleaded guilty
to two charges of conveying contraband in the country.
Customs Preventive officers in the
vicinity of the Rasau Toll in Kuala Belait led by ASC Hj Morshidi had
inspected a Brunei-registered car driven by the defendant, Tan Beng
Hong on April 18.
The officers received information
that the suspect car had escaped from being inspected at the Sungai
Tujoh checkpoint that morning.
Upon inspection, they discovered that
Tan was conveying six cartons of Perilly's cigarettes without Brunei
health warnings, 48 cans of Tiger beer and 8 kilos of chicken wings.
During investigations, Tan said that
the items valued at $109.43 were brought from neighbouring Miri for
his friend's birthday party.
