Ten-Day Book Fair Begins At ICC

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dato Awang Haji Dani declared open Book Fair 2003 at the International Convention Centre in Berakas today.

The ten-day fair is a joint effort of the Language and Literature Bureau and a number of government agencies and private companies.

The fair also provides an opportunity for producers, suppliers, librarians and students to meet and interact in an effort to encourage members of the public to appreciate and value books as a source of knowledge.

At the ceremony, the guest of honour, Dato Awang Haji Dani also launched new books the Language and Literature Bureau has published.

Veteran authors and young local writers produced the books on display at the fair. One of the sixteen new books focuses on biography of local religious figures and their role in propagating Islam.

One of them is the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Dato Dr Ustaz Haji Awang Md Zain.

Local and overseas book supplies and Computer companies are participating in the fair offering downloading educational and religious programmes suitable for children and adults.

The fair will be on until the 11th of this month from 8.30 in the morning to ten in the evening except for Friday which is open from 9am to 11.30am. It will resume from 2.30pm to 10pm. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
