Traditional Music Now Promoted Among The Young 

Bandar Seri Begawan - In the government's bid to inculcate a greater sense of awareness for traditional music among the young, a three-day workshop was held in the Belait District.

The workshop on 'Gulin Tangan' was organised to promote and garner wider interest in learning how to play the traditional instrument.

A working paper was tabled as part of the workshop program, organised jointly by the Youth and Sports Department of the Belait Office and the Youth Association of the Belait District, "Pembela".

The paper was titled "An approach and direction for youths to love their traditional heritage in art" was presented by the acting Art Instructor, Awang Haji Mohd bin Mokti.

Apart from observing the theory aspect, the participants were also exposed to the world of music through the practical process.

More than one hundred participants including students from several colleges, vocational and secondary schools as well as members of youth associations attended the session.

For the youngsters this workshop is a window in to the folk music of "Gulin Tangan", and an introduction to the rhythm of each race in the country.
