A local student in Kuala Belait made
his school proud when he managed to beat all odds to successfully
acquire a Japanese Ministry of Education's scholarship this year.
Heryanto bin Sipun, an ex-sixth
former of Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Ali, Kuala Belait left for Japan
in early April to pursue a course in Technical Education.
He would be learning Japanese for one
year before enrolling for the two-year course in Technical Education
next year.
"The one-year Japanese Language
course would ensure that I would be conversant enough to follow the
two-year course which would be conducted in Japanese language.
Heryanto said he was overjoyed on
learning that his application for the Japanese scholarship was
successful.
"I wish to extend my deepest
appreciation to the principal at Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Ali, Kuala
Belait Mr Koh Hong Puah for his support and encouragement.
He added that it was also Mr Koh who
encouraged him to apply for the Monbukagakusho Scholarship, which was
advertised in the Borneo Bulletin.
