'Preserve Brunei Royal Custom,' Brunei Leaders Told

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei society has to take the initiative to ensure that the Brunei Royal Custom will always be preserved and practised by the next generation.

Chief of the State Adat Istiadat, YAM Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz said this at the closing ceremony of the course on the Brunei Royal Custom for people who have been bestowed titles at the Dewan Persantapan Lapau yesterday.

"The features of discipline, courtesy and respect should be installed in the mind of every member of the community through proper guidance, he said."

He added that good behaviour as well as the appropriate way of speaking reflects the good name and image of the Malay Bruneians who are respected by other races in the world.

The chief of State Adat Istiadat also said that such practice will help the community to counter social problems faced by the world today.

The course was designed especially for those who hold the titles of Pehin Khatib, Mudim, Manteri Hulubalang, Juru and Manteri Darat.

Some 65 people, who have been bestowed titles comprising mosque and government officials, Penghulus and Kampong Ketuas, received their certificates.

The Public Service Institute and the Department of the State Adat Istiadat jointly organised the four-day to enhance the understanding on royal custom as well as increase knowledge on culture and tradition. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
