Thirty Women Among Drug Abusers Arrested This Year

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested 226 drug abusers, including 30 women from January to April this year in the Sultanate.

NCB statistics shows out of the total arrests, 76 drug offenders had been fined, sentenced to jail or given stroke of the cane after they were convicted of the offence.

According to the Assistant Director of the Enforcement and Intelligence Branch of the Narcotic Control Bureau, Awang Haji Ahmad, majority of the drugs confiscated were 'methyl amphetamine' or 'syabu' and codeine.

Based on observation, he said, syabu is the most popular drug in demand.

Awang Haji Ahmad also called on the public, especially ketua kampongs and penghulus to monitor the situation in their areas.

The community leaders are also urged to report promptly any suspicious activities to the authorities.
