Drug Habit Lands Four In Jail Seven Get Fined

Bandar Seri Begawan - Four local men were sentenced yesterday to a jail term of three and four years by the Kuala Belait Magistrate's Court, following their second conviction for consuming drugs.

Ak Nordin bin Pg Talip, 32 was jailed four years for eight counts of consuming syabu while undergoing supervision at the Narcotics Control Bureau between July 13 and October 19 last year. He was arrested on April 16 this year. Mohammad Shahril Rizal bin Hj Morni, 24, was sentenced to a jail term of three years for consuming syabu while still undergoing NCB supervision on June 3, 2000. He was detained by the NCB Investigation and Supervision Department of Bandar Seri Begawan on September 28, 2000.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Kamsani bin Hj Matbas, 32, was sentenced to three years and three months in prison, after his guilty plea of possessing syabu, consuming Class B codeine and possessing instruments for the purpose of consuming syabu. He was arrested by the Kuala Belait NCB raiding parties on November 1, 2001 in the vicinity of Jalan Bunga Kuning, Seria.

At the same time, eight locals who pleaded guilty to committing drug offences were also brought to court and were fined or jailed by Magistrate Dk Masni binte Pg Hj Bahar.

Ade Irmanto bin Mat Zaini, 21, was fined $3,000 or six months in default for consuming syabu and codeine. His partner in crime, Mohammad Aminorashid bin Ismail, 22, was fined $1,500 or three months jail in default for consuming syabu. They were both arrested on March 14, 2000 in the vicinity of barracks in Jalan Singa Menteri, KB.

Two other men, who were caught at the same place, Aziz bin Hj Sapar, 23, and Rusli bin Matamit, 26, were fined $1,500 and jailed 3 years each for consuming syabu. Awg Rusli had a previous conviction of consuming drugs. He was sentenced yesterday to a mandatory jail term of 3 years.

Meanwhile, Zamari bin Amzah, 24, was fined $3,800 or seven months in prison in default for consuming syabu and codeine and for possession of drug utensils in the vicinity of Kg Pandan housing in KB on March 13, 2001.

Abby Rizal bin Hj Osman, 27, was fined $3,000 or six months in prison for possessing 46.1644 gms of codeine and consuming the said drug. Also caught with him was Dede Alhaiz bin Hj Osman, 23, who was fined $1,500 or three months in prison for consuming codeine.
