The President of the Federation of
Brunei Malay Entrepreneurs (PPPMB) reminisced the good old times as he
was celebrated by the Deputy President I, and other members for
getting an Honorary Doctorate in Business Management from a reputable
university in the Philippines last month.
The celebration bash, sponsored by
the Deputy President I, Pg Shahminan Pg Hj Ismail took place at the
Restaurant Kemayan, Mile 1, Jalan Tutong last Wednesday night.
Dr Hj Abdul Latif bin Chuchu, the
president was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Philippines
Islamic University at a function held in Philippine Law School, Pasay
City, Manila last April 22.
He said apart from being awarded the
honorary doctorate he was also acknowledged by various people and
organisations there through letters of appreciation.
Dr Hj Abdul Latif first joined the
Gabungan Peniaga-Peniaga Bumiputera (GPB) in 1982, where together with
Hj Abdul Rahman Yusof, the incumbent PPPMB's Permanent Chairman and
the late Abdul Kadir Ciku, they managed to initiate changes in the
organisation's constitution.
"In 1998 I was invited to join
PPPMB and at the election that year, I was elected as the president, a
post I held for five years," he said.
Last month, the organisation once
again held an election where Dr Hj Abdul Latif was re-elected
unanimously as the president for the next five years.
He added that in his first five years
in office, PPPMB organised two business summits, the Pertemuan
Usahawan Melayu I and II.
Dr Hj Abdul Latif added, "I hope
the newly-elected committee members who were given mandate by other
members would now be successful in their combined efforts towards
projects that would benefit members wholly."
"Let us strive to develop a
business empire for PPPMB and let all of us work together to develop
the small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) so we all can participate
and contribute towards the national economy," he said.
