Another traditional brand banned

Another locally sold traditional
medicine has been found to be contaminated with poison. The Ministry
of Health in a press release wishes to inform the public that 'Jamu
Ramuan Traditional Madura Sihat Badan' has been found to contain
Phenylbutazone, a substance controlled under the Poisons Act.
The long term unsupervised
consumption of Phenylbutazone may lead to hearing disturbance,
shortness of breath, swelling of face or lower legs and blood
disorder.
The public is advised not to purchase
or consume this product which is currently available in the local
market.
Those who have the affected product
are advised to destroy or surrender it to the Pharmacy Enforcement
Section, Block 2G, 7th Floor, B.S.B. Health Centre in Jalan Ong Sum
Ping.
The Ministry of Health would again
like to remind the public that it is an offence under the Poisons Act
to sell any product containing a substance controlled under the said
Act. The penalty for such offence upon conviction is a fine of B$8,000
or 6 months imprisonment.
