The lockers where the workers keep their personal belongings
Several shop attendants of a leading
mega store at Tungku Link in Gadong were in tears as thieves ransacked
their personal lockers and stole their personal belongings on Tuesday
afternoon. The thieves escaped with eight mobile phones and cash
totalling B$1,000 which belonged to the workers.
The shop attendants said they usually
relieved themselves of their personal belongings such as handbags,
hand phones and money at the lockers which are located at a distance
from the mega store.
"It is the policy of our company
that we are not allowed to bring in our personal belongings into the
store.
"Every one of us is allocated a
locker to keep our belongings," said the workers of the store.
"This is to ensure that we
report for duty clean and we are expected to go out of the store clean
too when we finish our job."
They added that their lockers were
locked from outside but there was no guard assigned to look after the
lockers from any mishap.
The theft was believed to have
occurred on Tuesday afternoon when it was raining heavily. "We
hope the management will allocate a guard to look after the lockers
from now on," they said.
The workers said they had lodged
police report over the theft.
