An avid breeder of aquarium
fish was awarded an export deal to the US. Brunei's first ever
show-quality fighting fish was recently dispatched to the States
via RBA. With the approval of the Fishery department, Hj Mohd
Noor Hj Adnin's hobby is slowing turning into a business
prospect.
30 of these show-quality
fighting fish known as Betta Splendens are now on their way to
London after which they will continue their journey to Los
Angeles before embarking in Denver, Colorado to meet their new
owner, Linda Alson.
Hj Mohd Noor's marketer, Hj
Ayup Hj Mohd Shariff, said, "American wholesalers did a lot
of studies into the fish in this part of the world, in terms of
quality. And ours came out top in the list."
The high quality of his fish is
no accident. In order to obtain a license to export aquarium
fish, the Fishery department will carry out vigorous and
continuous inspections, to make sure these fish are in top-notch
condition.
"They even performed post
mortem on my fish," laughed Hj Mohd Noor.
A few American wholesalers are
looking to close the deal with Hj Mohd Noor.
However, he needs more time to
produce a high quantity of splendens that meets the quality
sought for.
In the meantime, he is
preparing his fish for the upcoming international aquarium fish
competition in Jakarta.
