SMSUA’s Motivational Camp Comes To
An End

Begawan - The three-day motivational camp organised by
Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School (SMSUA), Mukim Lumapas,
came to an end yesterday.
The school principal, Cikgu Hj
Juma'at bin Salleh, in his speech said the main objectives of the
camping were to build up students' self-motivation, confidence and
leadership quality, to make full use of their holiday for beneficial
activities and to strengthen relationships between the participants
and teachers.
He added that various activities
were arranged such as religious, cultural and game activities as
well as group presentation to help enhance the stamina and
capability of the students in handling problem solving.
He also congratulated all teachers
involved in successfully organising the motivational camp and
applauded the teachers' willingness to stay overnight and away from
home throughout the camping period.
Present as the guest of honour
during the closing ceremony was Awg Hj Hamdani bin Hj Alias, Head of
Counselling Department, Career and Counselling Unit, Ministry of
Education.
In his speech he commended the
teachers and students for sacrificing their school holidays for
beneficial activities. He added that in order to succeed in life
academically, one must work hard such as attending extra classes
especially for subjects like mathematics, science, English and Malay
languages.
He also advised the students to
manage and use their time wisely. He then presented certificates to
the participants.
Later he toured the camp areas for
both male and female. Parents also took the opportunity to tour the
camp areas.
Throughout the three-day camping,
the students did various activities to mould their personal
development to be more pro-active, outspoken and creative.
During the motivational talk, the
invited speaker, Hjh Rokayah binti Hj Tawe, a counsellor from the
Career and Counselling Unit, Department of Schools, Ministry of Education emphasised on effective
communication among students as well as teachers. Later that day,
participants attended a talk on selfmotivation from the school
counsellors, Cikgu Merliani binti Murah and Cikgu Alwany binti Hj
Abd Wahab.
Meanwhile in the afternoon, the
participants challenged their senses such as touch, taste, hearing
and sight in the "Bes-Bes Game". Each group was given materials to
guess by using their senses and at the end of the game they had to
write down what they have sensed.
The event continued last night with
cultural performances from each group. Participants unleashed their
creativities, talents, charisma and confidence in choreographing
dances, acting in short drama, poetry reading, playing musical
instruments and singing. The performances were entertaining and
reflected the lives of teenagers today.
On the last day, the participants'
mental and physical strength were put to the test as they conducted
an arduous trekking of Bukit Seah located around Mukim Lumapas. The
activity that lasted for about three hours had strengthened the
participants' teamwork and communication. Apart from that, the
students also successfully reached to the top of the hill, which is
over 3,000 metres.
The students were happy with the
camping activities and hoped that such activities will be organised
