the Maulidur Rasul procession at the Taman Sir Omar Ali Saifuddien
yesterday.
Led by His Majesty the Sultan and

participated in the mass procession to mark the auspicious occasion
of the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
Standing behind their respective
banners quoting various hadith and Quranic verses to carry during
the procession, 140 teams made up of government ministries and
departments, uniformed groups, the private sector, village
associations, village and mukim consultative councils, as well as
primary school pupils and secondary school students waited patiently
for the arrival of His Majesty.
The Royal Brunei Armed Forces made
up the largest contingent, with 1,500 participants. Younger children
could be seen taking advantage of shadows cast by their older
colleagues and teachers, bracing themselves for the 4.3 km walk
along the main streets of the capital.
The procession was also carried out
in the other districts where 47 teams with almost 7,000 participants
signed up in the Tutong district, 50 teams with about 9,000 people
in the Belait district, and Tembulong had 28 teams made up of an
estimated 2,000 people.

Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman, Acting Minister of
Religious Affairs, State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka

of the Surah al-Fatihah.

Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, His
Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince

delivered a brief welcoming address before His Majesty consented to
meet and greet the team leaders individually. Following the chanting
of Marhaban (which literally means "welcome", addressing the
Prophet) by the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources' 'dikir'
team was a 21-gun salute that rang through the centre of the
capital.

Rabiulawal in the year 571 in Mekah.
