Thousand Attend Maulud Procession In The Capital

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday joined over 24,000 Muslims in a mass gathering and procession to commemorate the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in the capital.

Also present were His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, HRH Prince `Abdul Malik and HRH 'Abdul Mateen.

The 4.3 kilometre procession covered major roads around the capital beginning and ending at the Taman Hj Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien. Banners were carried by the respective teams, while speakers were put along the designated roads glorifying the Prophet Muhammad.

The teams that took part in the procession were from the uniformed personnel, primary, religious and secondary schools and colleges, private organisations, government ministries and departments, associations, villages, mosques, religious halls and village consultative councils. The theme for this year is "Tunas Bangsa Berakhlaq Al-Quran".

Meanwhile, complimentary-drinks were distributed near SOAS and SMJA secondary schools and along Jln Tasek to quench the participants' thirst. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
