Parent Irked By Mobile Phone Ban
In School
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A parent yesterday expressed his dissatisfaction
over his son's mobile phone being confiscated by a teacher,
resulting in long hours of waiting to be fetched from school after
attending extra classes on Fridays.
The parent, who wanted to remain
anonymous, questioned the effectiveness of the ban. "The phone was
kept by his teachers, who also switched off the phone, making it
difficult for us to contact our son."
The directive by the Ministry of
Education on banning students from carrying mobile phones to school
came into effect last September.
One of the teachers told the
Bulletin that they were merely following instructions from the
ministry.
Another parent advised students to
turn off their phones or put on silent mode while attending classes.
Meanwhile, a student said the
teachers should allow students to claim back their phones during
break times and after school.
