Clearer Vision In 30 Seconds
By Aemy Azlena

Bandar Seri Begawan - Blurred vision, short-sightedness and astigmatism are every day problems that a lot of people can relate to. Over the years, much has been done to rectify these problems, with the help of spectacles, contact lenses and eye surgeries.

Vista is one such solution, offering its revolutionary 'Bladeless' Intralase Lasik procedure. The procedure is safe and effective, even earning the stamp of approval of NASA.

Vista Business Development Manager Ng Kean How explained to the Bulletin about the services and products available, during a recent visit to Brunei for a seminar on Lasik and cataract.

Lasik or Laser-Assisted In-situ Keratomileusis surgery is a two-step procedure, where a flap is cut in the cornea and the eye is then reshaped so it can properly refract light, all with the use of a laser.

Compared to a blade cut, the laser makes a more accurate cut leading to lesser chances of complications later on.

This has the added advantage of increasing the willingness of patients to undergo eye surgery, especially those who are understandably `shy' of having a sharp blade applied directly to their eye.

According to Ng Kean How, the procedure can be carried out on just about anyone, young or old, regardless of race and gender.

Patients need only go through a number of tests and a consultation to determine if they are suitable, based on their eye's power, cornea thickness, pupil size, curvature of the eye and overall health of the eye.

Furthermore, the recipients of the procedure must be 18 years and above with stable power (eye degree).

The procedure itself takes only 15-30 seconds to complete. Patients who have undergone the process have claimed that their vision has improved immensely, with some achieving 20/20 to 20/15 and even 20/12.5 vision.

Though the patients need to remain awake to focus their eye on a red light to keep their eye still, the procedure itself is painless as anaesthetic drops are applied onto the eye.

There is even a lifetime warranty on the procedure. Ng Kean How says the company will redo the procedure free of charge if the problem returns.

Though admittedly the procedure can be expensive - with the cost ranging from RM2,000 to RM5,000 - it is a great alternative to glasses and contacts, particularly for those who are physically active and have physically challenging jobs.

The procedure is not considered a plastic surgery but rather cosmetic surgery.

Since its establishment in 1999, Vista has performed 10,000 procedures and provides a number of services such as correction of short-sightedness, correction of reading vision, cataract multifocal surgery and comprehensive eye examination. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
