Sungai Kebun Fire & Rescue Dept Holds Blood Donation Drive

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Fire and Rescue Department of the Sungai Kebun, Operation D Branch organised a blood donation drive at the station in Sungai Kebun yesterday.

The event was held in conjunction with the 48 anniversary of the Fire and Rescue Department.

Present at the event were officers of the Fire and Rescue Department led by Senior Superintendent Hj Mohammad bin Hj Sulaiman, Commander of D Command, Sungai Kebun Fire and Rescue Department.

Hj Ibrahim BMDP Hj Bakar, Chief Supervisor of the Blood Donation Unit; Laboratory Department, led a blood collection team of 12 personnel that collected a pint of blood from each donor.

The annual event was opened to the public and attracted about 50 donors.

Before donating blood, each donor was interviewed, health screened and tested for haemoglobin (oxygen inside blood).

Blood collected will again be screened for HIV, Hepatitis and the likes before being used.

Each pint of blood collected will be kept only for 35 days before it's destroyed. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
