Supervisor, Jamaluddin Sabaruddin, who was working on board Adriatic
XI in Vietnam, recently helped to coordinate the rescue of a local
Vietnamese fisherman Le Thanh who was found to be clinging to the
side of the oilrig in the Vietnam waters of Vung Tau.
According to a source from GCE, at
approximately 7.30am last Sunday morning, Jamaluddin saw an object
approaching the port side of the rig and immediately notified his
supervisor.
Upon investigation, it was
confirmed to be a person without a single piece of clothing on who
had swum and climbed up the port side and was shivering in the cold.
This prompted an alarm.
Jamaluddin
was chosen as one of the rescue crew members and coordination was
set up between the rig leg and the control room.
Rescue attempt was deem necessary
by leg ladders as the support vessel was confirmed to have no FRC on
board and they were not confident to rescue the man from the -
water.
Le Thanh was rescued by two of the
crewmembers who descended the ladder with precautions put in place
to ensure the safety of both the crew and the person being saved.
The rescue mission was successful
and Le Thanh was immediately given medical attention on board the
rig. His family was notified by local authorities and is waiting for
his return.
While onboard, clothes were given
to Le Thanh who was also given a pair of Transocean coveralls.
