MIPR Vows 1,000 Pledges For SCB's Race For A Living Planet
By Azaraimy HH

Bandar Seri Begawan - Work to preserve the environment must be accompanied by a positive mindset of loving our ecological beauty, Tiew Siew Chuen, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank, said during her meeting with Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah bin Hj Abdul Wahab at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources building yesterday.

Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah, Deputy Minister of Industry and Primary Resources who is also the chairman of the Brunei Tourism Board, met with Ms Tiew to learn more on Standard Chartered Bank's latest environmental initiative - `Race for a Living Planet' that has been receiving positive media attention of late.

"I congratulate Standard Chartered Bank on this wonderful, timely initiative. I am delighted that Brunei is leading this race and we have all come together to support with our pledges. I, for one, am going to pave the way here at MIPR and secure 1,000 pledges," said Dato Hamdillah.

"Winning this environmental competition would mean a lot for Brunei and our drive to be the beacon of the Heart of Borneo. It is also another opportunity to feature Brunei on the eco-tourism world map as results are announced and more importantly, Brunei will benefit as a whole, together with the rest of the world, on the environmental work under the umbrella of the "Heart of Borneo" Project that we will be able to carry out with the prize money," added Dato Hamdilah.

"For all who have not yet pledged, I urge you to visit www.thegreatestrace.com no and make your pledge before the deadline of 17 March 2008," urged Dato Hamdillah.

"We thank Dato Hamdillah for his generous support and all in Brunei who have pledged for us. We are all very excited as the day for results draws near and look forward to winning this race," said Ms Siew Chuen.

The Greatest Race on Earth (GROE) is the world's only marathon team relay series, run across four of the most exotic cities on the planet. Created and sponsored by Standard Chartered since 2004, it is entering its fourth series, with prize money of USD1.08 million-the largest guaranteed prize pool in world athletics. The races for this series in 2007/2008 were in Nairobi (28 Oct 2007), Singapore (2 Dec 2007), Mumbai (20 Jan 2008) and Hong Kong (17 February 2008).
