US Navy Ship Makes Port Visit
By Amin Hosni

Bandar Seri Begawan - The US Navy ship USS Dubuque, an Austin-class amphibious transport dock, arrived at Muara Commercial Port, Feb 28, for a regular port visit.

During the visit, sailors had the chance to meet with the locals, experience local customs and traditions, as well as sightseeing, shopping and enjoying the many recreational activities offered in the Sultanate.

USS Dubuque is the fifth Austin-class amphibious transport dock. This class of ship combines three functions: dock landing, attack personnel transport and cargo handling. It is commanded by Captain William C Hamilton and is home ported in San Diego, California.

The Dubuque has a large flight deck for helicopter operations and a well deck that carries amphibious landing vehicles such as the LCU and LCAC.

In addition, the ship is configured as a flagship and provides extensive command, control and communication facilities to support an amphibious task commander and landing force commander. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
