Halal, Haram Roadshow In Kuala
Belait
By Liza Mohd
Kuala Belait -
Enforcing the Halal Certificate and Halal Label 2005 Order
would help consumers buy food without doubts in the local market.
By displaying the Halal Certificate
and Halal Label, food processors or entrepreneurs will reassure
consumers, give their products more commercial value and entice
consumers further.
Director of SyaiahAffairsAwg Hj Zaimi
Hi Talip highlighted this at the launch of the Halal Haram Roadshow at
Municipal Hall in Kuala Belait yesterday morning.
"The fact that users as customers
need not have to go through the hassle of conducting research towards
purchased items will certainly provide convenience to both
entrepreneurs or food processors and also the consumers," he said.
Awg
Hj Zaimi said the roadshow aims to introduce the Halal Certificate and
Halal Label 2005 Order that will be enforced soon in the country. This
move would involve all restaurant entrepreneurs and food processing
companies.
Awg
Suhaimi Hj Gemok, an officer from the Islamic Law Unit, and Awg
Zulkhairi Hj Mohd Noor and Zuraini.H_j Sharbawi, both from the
Attorney General's Chambers, conducted the briefing session.
Over 300 restaurant operators and
eateries as well as local food processors and manufacturing companies
in Belait District attended yesterday's roadshow. It was the first to
be held in Kuala Belait, and the third organised by the Syariah
Affairs Department, having held it twice in the Brunei Muara District.
Roadshows
will also be held for restaurant operators and eateries and local food
processing companies in Tutong and Temburong District soon. The
roadshow concluded with a Q&A session conducted by the invited
speakers.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs had
announced the country would soon be implementing the Halal Certificate
and Halal Label 2005 Order on processed food and food storage for
business premises such as restaurants.
Prior to the implementation of the
Halal Certificate and Halal Label 2005 Order, the ministry's Syariah
Affairs Department is holding roadshows in the four districts.
The events will be conducted to
increase and strengthen the understanding of the parties involved
directly with the implementation and enforcement of the Halal
Certificate and Halal Label 2005 Act.
Activities lined up include a
briefing session for restaurants, local food and beverage stalls and
market entrepreneurs, importers of foreign processed food as well as
relevant enforcement officers.
The Halal Certificate and Halal Label
will be issued upon successful applications to the respective
authority.
Application fee for the Halal
certificates is fixed at B$30 per annum for a restaurant/ food and
beverage stall. A Halal permit application will cost B$50.
The Halal Certificate and Halal Label
2005 Order was gazetted last May 28, 2005.
