Pekira To Hold Study Tour To
Pontianak

Begawan - Ex-civil Servants Association (Pekira) is set to
organise a study tour to Pontianak, Indonesia by coach from June
12-19.
Aimed at educating participants on
the cooperative operations as well as visiting places of interest, the
tour package is priced at $350 per person, inclusive of return
air-conditioned coach ride between Brunei and Pontianak and
twin-sharing hotel accommodations at various locations during the
journey as well as insurance coverage while in West Kalimantan,
Indonesia.
Pekira
members will be given a 20 per cent discount on the package, and for
each person who signs up for the tour, $10 of the proceeds will be
donated to the Pekira fund.
Open to the public, interested
participants need to pay a deposit of $50 before May 6, while
organisers expect full payments by June 3. For more details on the

Pontianak,
the capital of West Kalimantan province, is located on the Borneo
island, near the South China Sea. A leading port and trading centre of
west Borneo, the city exports copra, rubber, timber, and palm oil.
Organisers
said the journey will commence from the capital on June 12 at 7 am,
passing Sungai Tujuh and Niah, before arriving at a rest stop in Sibu.
On June 13, the tour will depart from
Sibu to Pontianak via various towns in Sarawak including Seri Arran
and Serian. The coach is expected to arrive at the Sarawak border post
of Tebedy at 11.30 am before entering Entikong in West Kalimantan.
From Entikong, the group will be
transported to Ngabang and arrive in Pontianak on the same day.
On June 14, participants will visit
the Cooperative Office of West Kalimantan where they will receive a
briefing.
The group will then move on to
various successful cooperatives in Pontianak.
The following day, the group will
visit various places of interest, including the museum, Equatorial
Monument, Lidah Buaya Farm, ancient mosques and Pontianak Palace.
On June 16, participants will travel
to Kota Singkawang and Mempawah where they will visit the Longan Farm
and Handicraft Centre.
The next day, the group will visit
the ancient gravesite of a Brunei Sultan at Sambas.
The group will depart on June 18 to
Singkawang where they will rest at a hotel before the journey home the
following day and arrive in the capital at 7 pm. --
