Limau Manis Police Donate Blood To
RIPAS
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Limau Manis police personnel donated 16 pints of
blood to RIPAS Hospital's blood bank, which has so far collected
around 2,278 pints of blood.
The need of blood transfusions for
medical and surgical purposes has been rising each year.
Fortunately, the number of donations
has also been adequate, thanks to a continually vigorous campaign, as
well as generous groups and individuals.
However, Pg Hj Bungsu Pg Hj Chuchu,
head of the blood bank at RIPAS Hospital, in an interview with the
Bulletin yesterday said that donations in Belait have unfortunately
been less than encouraging.
He hoped more people from the
district would come forward to donate their blood.
He added that blood could only be
stored for around three to four months before they are disposed thus
the constant need for donations.
Before, around 400 pints of blood a
month for RIPAS Hospital alone was satisfactory, but now more
donations are needed due to an increasing number of patients.
It is therefore important to
encourage all healthy individuals to donate blood.
In the coming days, there will be
more collections held at the Chinese Association, Sungai Liang
Forestry Group and HSBC Bank in BSB.
To be eligible for blood donation, a
person must be in good health, said Pg Hi Bungsu.
Medical personnel will be present to
assess a donor's health.
Some have experienced slight
discomfort during or immediately after a blood donation.
However, Pg Hj Bungsu explained, the
risk of donating blood is almost nonexistent.
It is not possible to acquire any
disease as new and sterilised equipment are used every time. --
