Brunei To Host Asean Youth Quran

Begawan - Brunei will be hosting the Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran
Asean Youth 2005 to be held from April 6 to 8 at the International
Convention Centre (ICC).
His Majesty the Sultan is expected to
attend the award presentation ceremony on the third night.
The opening ceremony will be held at
8pm Wednesday, April 6, and will be attended by His Royal Highness the
Crown Prince Pg Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah.
The competition is organised by high
committees under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports with
cooperation from government ministries, departments as well as the
private sector.
A press conference for the Musabaqah
Tilawatil Quran Asean Youth Competition was held yesterday.
It was headed by Awg Haji Jemat bin
Haji Ampal, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and
Sports, and the Secretary of the competition.
This is the third year the Sultanate
is hosting this highly regarded event. The first was in 2000 and the
second in 2003.
The objectives are to spread the
Islamic Dakwah among youths in the ASEAN region to promote and weave
the feeling of friendship and relationship and promote cooperation
among ASEAN youth through religious events.
It is also expected to help increase
the level of quality in the reading of the Holy Quran among the ASEAN
youth and to continue the ongoing development of reading quality from
youth level to adult level whether in national or international level
competition.
This year, the organiser has invited
participants from 10 ASEAN countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia,
Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and
Brunei Darussalam.
Each participating country is invited
to send one male (a Qari) and one female (a Qariah) participant, and
an accompanying officer. The government will be sponsoring their air
tickets, food and accommodation.
All participants must be 18 to 23
years old, and has never participated in any Quran reading competition
internationally.
At the opening ceremony four
participants will compete, followed by 14 participants on the second
night.
The third night will see the award
presentation ceremony. The champions, first and second runner-ups in
each category will receive trophies, cash, certificates and the Brunei
Darussalam Mushaf.
Consolation winners will also receive
souvenirs, cash, certificates and the Brunei Darussalam Mushaf.
The high committees said entry cards
for the public are obtainable. The public should contact the Secretary
of the Musabaqah on Level 3, Department of Youth and Sports to obtain
the entry card for the three nights. --
