Indonesian Businesswoman Duped To
Buy Fake Rolex Watch
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Two alleged conmen in Indonesia, who introduced
themselves as rich Bruneians, recently persuaded an Indonesian
businesswoman to buy a fake Rolex watch from them in South Jakarta.
The mother of two related her story
to an Indonesian provincial newspaper after lodging a police report at
Tanjung Duren Police Station.
In her report, she alleged that she
was cheated of 6 million rupiah (about B$1,200) by two men who claimed
to have come from Brunei.
The businesswoman, Mulyani, was
approached by the two `Bruneians' as she was about to bank in her
company's money, 2.7 million rupiah ($540) to the RCA bank.
The duo offered her the `gold' Rolex
watch at 10 million rupiah ($2,000), but she was not interested. Just
as Mulyani was about to leave, another person (probably part of the
syndicate) approached the sellers, offering to purchase the watch at 6
million rupiah.
The sellers then told the buyer that
the Rolex watch would cost 10 million rupiah at established watch
shops.
Following the purchase of the Rolex
watch, the woman became attracted to the offer. However, she did not
have enough money in hand.
Mulyani
then borrowed 2 million rupiah from her mother before withdrawing cash
from her account. She even used her company's money towards paying for
the fake watch.
After the two men left, Mulyani made
her way to a watch shop, where she was told that her newly purchased
Rolex was not a genuine item. --
