Temburong’s Forest Reserve
Featured At World Expo In Japan
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Brunei's pavilion at the World Expo 2005 in Aichi,
Japan features its forest reserve in Temburong with the wooden walkway
attracting visitors from Japan and around the world.
The wooden walkway is built inside
the pavilion surrounded by tropical rainforest complete with the
sights and sounds of animals, birds and a waterfall.
Visitors then pass through the oil
and gas sector featuring the industry's environmental protection
programmes.
Other attractions include the many
exhibits of traditional handicraft as well as the country's rich
culture, tradition and royal customs.
A three-member staff comprising
officials from the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources will be
staying in Japan on a three-month rotational basis to man the
pavilion.
Brunei LNG and Brunei Shell
Petroleum, which partly sponsored Brunei's participation, sent
representatives to man the expo during the first few opening days. In
addition, local Japanese officials have also been hired to assist in
interpretation work.
The six-month long World Expo 2005
opened on March 25.
The expo, which is located on the
outskirts of Nagoya, was declared open by Japanese Emperor Akihito.
Nicknamed `Love Earth Expo', it
revolves around the theme `Nature's Wisdom', and hopes to bring
everyone together to make them think of the earth and protect the
environment.
Each pavilion has an environmental
theme. Japan's pavilion and corporate pavilions all use solar and wind
energy to generate the bulk of their electricity.
All the pavilions of the 120
participating countries resemble a prefab warehouse. They can be
scrapped and rebuilt for reuse.
An estimated 15 million visitors are
expected over the course of the six-month event. Japan last hosted a
World Expo in 1970, when it was staged in the city of Osaka. --
