Man Jailed For Instigating Stepson To Steal Easi Cards
By Malai FadleyRizal

Bandar Seri Begawan - The stepfather of a seven-year-old boy was jailed for six months by the Bandar Magistrate's Court Saturday for instigating the boy to steal Easi recharge cards at a convenience shop in Jalan Kebangsaan Baru.

Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri in sentencing Asnan bin Kifli said that the defendant had abused a young person to commit theft and in doing so did not show love and affection.

Asnan sold $200 worth of stolen Easi cards to a friend for $60, which he spent on his children's needs.

The prosecution told the court that Asnan had brought his wife and infant daughter as well as his stepson to a convenience shop with the intention to steal on May 19 last year.

Asnan's wife asked the shop manager to help her find a "boxed coffee drink" on the shelves.

While the manager was busy, Asnan instigated his stepson to steal the Easi recharge cards from a drawer near the cash register. The family then left the shop.

The manager later lodged a police report after he noticed that ten Easi cards were missing.

Asnan and his family were later detained by police for questioning.

Police records showed that Asnan had 14 previous theft related convictions. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
