CAB President Re-Elected For New
Term
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The President of the Consumers Association of Brunei
Darussalam (CAB) Hj Shadoon Hj Lamzi was re-elected last Saturday
during an annual general meeting at the Royal Brunei Golf Club in
Berakas.
Hj
Shadoon won the election with 12 out of 21 votes. The challenger to
his throne was Hj Osman Hj Omar.
The president-elect's next move will
be to select his executive committee members for the association.
Attended by 21 CAB members, the
meeting was opened by local businessman Dr Hj Abdul Latif Chuchu,
president of Persekutuan Peniaga-Peniaga Melayu Brunei (PPPMB).
Hj
Abdul Latif, in his address, said CAB is an important association as
it fights for the rights of the consumers in the country.
He also urged the Consumer Protection
Act (CPA) to be implemented in the country to assist CAB in overcoming
problems faced by the consumers.
During the meeting chaired by its
treasurer general Hidup Hj Ahmad, CAB members also presented several
proposals to better the function of the association.
Among the ideas included an amendment
of the constitution by adding new regulations.
Members also suggested looking into
problems faced by the consumers as a result of globalisation and
borderless trade.
"We must find a way to better protect
the consumers. We must think of ways to popularise CAB through a
website, so we can attend to their needs promptly," a member said.
