Workshop On Halal Food
Manufacturing
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - About 30 local entrepreneurs are expected to
participate in a one-day workshop on halal food manufacturing to be
held on April 9 at the Brunei Industrial Development Authority in
Beribi.
The workshop, to be conducted by
Malaysian company Retriva Solutions Sdn Bhd in cooperation with a
local establishment, Sapco (B) Sdn Bhd, is designed to offer
participants ways to explore huge business potentials in the halal
food market.
Retriva
Solutions will be hosted by Bumiputera Consortium Sdn Bhd (BCB),
according to BCB Chairman Pg Shahminan Pg Hj Ismail, who is also the
chairman of Sapco (B).
He said that the Malaysian delegation
would arrive in the capital on April 8 and would return home on April
11.
Pg Shahminan said the workshop would
expose local businessmen on ways to regulate the production of halal-certified
food in the country to ensure that local products meet Islamic and
international trade guidelines, which would guarantee their
`credibility' in the world market.
"Our main concern is that the
credibility of our (halal) products should be maintained," he said,
explaining that Brunei would lose its chance to enter the huge halal
food export market if another country were to find our halal products
unsatisfactory.
He said Brunei's prominence in the
Muslim world should provide confidence to potential Muslim consumers,
especially in West Asia and China, in teens of the country's adherence
to stringent halal food standards.
Those interested to take part in the
workshop can telephone 2239162, 8606642, 8748416 or 8842149 for more
details. --
